ACORN Vegas Office Raided in Voter Fraud Investigation

ACORN is at again...or should I say "still".  Obama will distance himself further from these guys than he will from Bill Ayers or Tony Rezko...

ACORN Vegas Office Raided in Voter Fraud Investigation - FOXNews.com Elections

Nevada state authorities seized records and computers Tuesday from the Las Vegas office of an organization that tries to get low-income people registered to vote, after fielding complaints of voter fraud.

Bob Walsh, spokesman for the Nevada secretary of state's office, told FOXNews.com the raid was prompted by ongoing complaints about "erroneous" registration information being submitted by the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, also called ACORN.

You neglected to say that the Acorn raid didn't actually find any evidence of fraud. You also managed to leave out the fact that Acorn does not have any means of examining the validity of their voting registrations and that Acorn is, by law, required to turn in ALL voting applications whether they are suspect or not. In fact, the vast majority of the questionable registration forms that conservatives like to expound on were actually REPORTED by Acorn itself! More fear mongering.

If you believe that ACORN is an innocent victim of unscrupulous employees and that they do not systematically promote voter fraud than I am afraid I have grossly overestimated your intelligence. However, I do not think that is true. I believe you know what ACORN is and how they work and simply like to stir the pot - stir away :)

You "have grossly overestimated [my] intelligence?" Is that a Republican way to call someone stupid? Maybe I'm just not smart enough to get it.

Actually, I don't know much about Acorn, so I'm not going to make a judgment one way or the other. It's just that the evidence presented does not convict this group of anything.

If you've ever read any of my essays, like those on Mad Sociologist, you would know that it is my theory that all institutions are to a certain extent corrupt. So I'll accept your premise that Acorn is doing corrupt things in the background...as are the Republicans, as are the Democrats, as is the Lutheran Church, as is the school in which I work. Every institution serves its own needs first.

Context, my good man - context. My exact quote said "IF you believe that ACORN is an innocent victim of unscrupulous employees and that they do not systematically promote voter fraud THEN (actually, I typoed 'then' in the first quote) I am afraid I have grossly overestimated your intelligence. However, I do not think that is true."
IF / THEN is not the same as "you are".
And ACORN's corruption is a systematic way of doing business - not the acts of a few renegades. My apologies if you weren't aware but you will be when some of there folks go to jail.

OK. I'll buy that. I have other things I want to follow up on so I'll leave ACORN to you. So far from what I've read I'm not convinced.

Interesting, your if/then comparison is interesting. It's the same kind of language use that McCain scolded Obama for during last nights debate...(and I agree with McCain on this, by the way. Obama does often use very vague language).

Then you made the comment about systemic corruption and renegades. The last time I heard that argument...I was using it when discussing Abu Ghraib.

Maybe you're a closet liberal : )
