Bush, McCain Tried To Reform Freddie Mac

This is another STELLAR discovery by the folks at Sweetness & Light regarding what the Bush Administration proposed FIVE YEARS AGO!!!

Bush, McCain Tried To Reform Freddie Mac Sweetness & Light

September 11, 2003

The Bush administration today recommended the most significant regulatory overhaul in the housing finance industry since the savings and loan crisis a decade ago.

Under the plan, disclosed at a Congressional hearing today, a new agency would be created within the Treasury Department to assume supervision of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the government-sponsored companies that are the two largest players in the mortgage lending industry.

The new agency would have the authority, which now rests with Congress, to set one of the two capital-reserve requirements for the companies. It would exercise authority over any new lines of business. And it would determine whether the two are adequately managing the risks of their ballooning portfolios...

And what does our wonderful Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi have to say about Congress' actions during this time:

Pelosi: Dems bear no responsibility for economic crisis

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, when asked Tuesday whether Democrats bear some of the responsibility regarding the current crisis on Wall Street, had a one-word answer: “No.”

Pelosi (D-Calif.) ripped President Bush’s “mismanagement” of the economy and a lack of regulation that led to the current situation.
“I think the American people have had it with this situation where the middle-income people in our country are not protected from the ramifications of the risk-taking and the greed of these financial institutions,” Pelosi told MSNBC.
When asked whether the Democrats “deserve some responsibility” regarding the economic crisis, Pelosi responded: “No.”

U.S. hands back security of Anbar Province

U.S. hands back security of Anbar Province - International Herald Tribune

Two years ago, Anbar Province was the most lethal place for American forces in Iraq. A U.S. marine or soldier died in the province nearly every day, and the provincial capital, Ramadi, was a moonscape of rubble and ruins. Islamic extremists controlled large pieces of territory, with some so ferocious in their views that they did not even allow the baking of bread.

On Monday, U.S. commanders formally returned responsibility for keeping order in Anbar Province, once the heartland of the Sunni insurgency, to the Iraqi Army and police. The ceremony, including a parade on a freshly paved street, capped one of the most significant turnabouts in the country since the war began five and a half years ago.

New Orleans Tells Residents to Leave or Face Storm Alone

New Orleans tells residents to leave or face storm alone

Isn't it amazing that Ray Nagin, mayor of New Orleans, and the city government can tell people "you are on your own"? Here's the quote from the story:

Those among New Orleans' estimated 310,000 to 340,000 residents who ignore orders to leave accept "all responsibility for themselves and their loved ones," the city's emergency preparedness director, Jerry Sneed, has warned.

Imagine if President Bush said this. There would be calls for public hanging - nevermind impeachment.

I expect Barack Obama to be on this any second now since his speech on Thursday made it perfectly clear that this is unacceptable. And I quote:

" We are more compassionate than a government...that sits on its hands while a major American city drowns before our eyes...
...For over two decades, he's (McCcain) subscribed to that old, discredited Republican philosophy...Pull yourself up by your own bootstraps - even if you don't have boots. You're on your own."

Yeah, I expect to see Obama condemn the New Orleans mayor's office anytime now...

American Thinker: A Brief History of Bush's Time

from the American Thinker web site By Randall Hoven

...Despite being handed one of the worst situations in history from President Clinton, and being fought tooth and nail by his opponents in government and the media, literally from the day of his election, President George W. Bush persevered to restore prosperity at home and to make the US and the world more free and secure...more

This piece is an awesome roundup of the reasons why 'historians' should be left to discuss things that happened long ago instead of trying to determine what history will be...

Who Lied About Iraq? by Randall Hoven

from the American Thinker web site
Do not believe that post-invasion intelligence invalidates our justification for using military force against Saddam's Iraq. The truth is the exact opposite.

Notes from poster: This is a great article refuting many of the lies about what Saddam had for weapons programs during the lead-up to the liberation of Iraq. It's a long read but well worth it if you are willing to learn something other than "Bush Lied"...
