Biden's "mis-statements" during the debate

Of course, these are coming from the McCain web site so we'll need to follow up and make sure these are accurate.   At first glance, they all seem legit.

JohnMcCain.com - McCain-Palin 2008

1. TAX VOTE: Biden said McCain voted “the exact same way” as Obama to increase taxes on Americans earning just $42,000, but McCain DID NOT VOTE THAT WAY.
2. AHMEDINIJAD MEETING: Joe Biden lied when he said that Barack Obama never said that he would sit down unconditionally with Mahmoud Ahmedinijad of Iran. Barack Obama did say specifically, and Joe Biden attacked him for it.
3. OFFSHORE OIL DRILLING: Biden said, “Drill we must.” But Biden has opposed offshore drilling and even compared offshore drilling to “raping” the Outer Continental Shelf.”
4. TROOP FUNDING: Joe Biden lied when he indicated that John McCain and Barack Obama voted the same way against funding the troops in the field. John McCain opposed a bill that included a timeline, that the President of the United States had already said he would veto regardless of it’s passage.
5. OPPOSING CLEAN COAL: Biden says he’s always been for clean coal, but he just told a voter that he is against clean coal and any new coal plants in America and has a record of voting against clean coal and coal in the U.S. Senate.
6. ALERNATIVE ENERGY VOTES: According to FactCheck.org, Biden is exaggerating and overstating John McCain’s record voting for alternative energy when he says he voted against it 23 times.
7. HEALTH INSURANCE: Biden falsely said McCain will raise taxes on people's health insurance coverage -- they get a tax credit to offset any tax hike. Independent fact checkers have confirmed this attack is false
8. OIL TAXES: Biden falsely said Palin supported a windfall profits tax in Alaska -- she reformed the state tax and revenue system, it's not a windfall profits tax.
9. AFGHANISTAN / GEN. MCKIERNAN COMMENTS: Biden said that top military commander in Iraq said the principles of the surge could not be applied to Afghanistan, but the commander of NATO's International Security Assistance Force Gen. David D. McKiernan said that there were principles of the surge strategy, including working with tribes, that could be applied in Afghanistan.
10. REGULATION: Biden falsely said McCain weakened regulation -- he actually called for more regulation on Fannie and Freddie.
11. IRAQ: When Joe Biden lied when he said that John McCain was “dead wrong on Iraq”, because Joe Biden shared the same vote to authorize the war and differed on the surge strategy where they John McCain has been proven right.
12. TAX INCREASES: Biden said Americans earning less than $250,000 wouldn’t see higher taxes, but the Obama-Biden tax plan would raise taxes on individuals making $200,000 or more.
13. BAILOUT: Biden said the economic rescue legislation matches the four principles that Obama laid out, but in reality it doesn’t meet two of the four principles that Obama outlined on Sept. 19, which were that it include an emergency economic stimulus package, and that it be part of “part of a globally coordinated effort with our partners in the G-20.”
14. REAGAN TAX RATES: Biden is wrong in saying that under Obama, Americans won't pay any more in taxes then they did under Reagan.

Biden Says Never Wanted To Partition Iraq

The man is incapable of telling the truth...

Biden Says Never Wanted To Partition Iraq | Sweetness & Light

Compare this with what he wrote just two years ago in the New York Times:

Unity Through Autonomy in Iraq

By JOSEPH R. BIDEN JR. AND LESLIE H. GELB

Published: May 1, 2006

...Iraq’s new government of national unity will not stop the deterioration. Iraqis have had three such governments in the last three years, each with Sunnis in key posts, without noticeable effect. The alternative path out of this terrible trap has five elements.

The first is to establish three largely autonomous regions with a viable central government in Baghdad. The Kurdish, Sunni and Shiite regions would each be responsible for their own domestic laws, administration and internal security. The central government would control border defense, foreign affairs and oil revenues. Baghdad would become a federal zone, while densely populated areas of mixed populations would receive both multisectarian and international police protection.

Decentralization is hardly as radical as it may seem: the Iraqi Constitution, in fact, already provides for a federal structure and a procedure for provinces to combine into regional governments.

Besides, things are already heading toward partition: increasingly, each community supports federalism, if only as a last resort. The Sunnis, who until recently believed they would retake power in Iraq, are beginning to recognize that they won’t and don’t want to live in a Shiite-controlled, highly centralized state with laws enforced by sectarian militias. The Shiites know they can dominate the government, but they can’t defeat a Sunni insurrection. The Kurds will not give up their 15-year-old autonomy.

Some will say moving toward strong regionalism would ignite sectarian cleansing. But that’s exactly what is going on already, in ever-bigger waves. Others will argue that it would lead to partition. But a breakup is already under way. As it was in Bosnia, a strong federal system is a viable means to prevent both perils in Iraq.

Mind you, Mr. Biden’s latest claims can’t be explained away as a gaffe.

This is just a flat out lie.

And, by the way, Bosnia is partitioned — by any definition of the word.

Do Barack Obama and Joe Biden speak to each other?

A nice collection of stories today that have Joe Biden directly contradicting the Obama campaign on a few different issues. I guess this is how you please everybody: If you like "clean coal" - Obama's your guy, if not - Biden's got you covered. If you want the government to bail out AIG - Obama's with you, if not - Biden's got you covered. If you think it's ok to pick on a man because he can't physically use a keyboard due to war injuries - Obama agrees, if not - Biden's got you covered.

Obama on Biden's Initial Opposition to AIG Bailout: "Joe Should Have Waited"

"What has been clear during this entire past ten days is John McCain has not had clarity and a grasp on the situation," Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., told NBC's Matt Lauer in an interview that ran this morning.

Lauer was talking about how Obama hit Sen. McCain for flip-flopping on the AIG bailout -- saying he opposed it one day then announce he supported it the next day.

But, as Lauer pointed out, scarcely three minutes after McCain said he opposed the AIG bailout last week, "in an interview with Meredith Vieira, Joe Biden, your running mate was asked the exact same question, 'should the federal government bailout AIG?' And he said, 'No, the federal government should not bailout AIG. And I think that in that situation," Obama said, "I think Joe should have waited as well."

Biden Says Ad Mocking McCain Was ‘Terrible’

WASHINGTON — Barack Obama’s running mate says a campaign ad that mocked Republican presidential candidate John McCain as an out-of-touch, out-of-date computer illiterate was “terrible” and would not have been done had he known about it.

...Asked about the negative tone of the campaign, and this ad in particular, during an interview broadcast Monday by the “CBS Evening News,” Obama’s running mate, Sen. Joe Biden, said he disapproved of it.

“I thought that was terrible, by the way,” Biden said.
Asked why it was done, he said: “I didn’t know we did it and if I had anything to do with it, we’d have never done it.”

Biden: "We're not supporting clean coal"

“No coal plants here in America. Build them, if they’re going to build them, over there. Make them clean. We’re not supporting clean coal.”

That's strange, Obama seems to feel differently, this is DIRECTLY from the Obama campaign web site.

Develop and Deploy Clean Coal Technology

  • Obama’s Department of Energy will enter into public private partnerships to develop five “first-of-a-kind” commercial scale coal-fired plants with clean carbon capture and sequestration technology.

Of course, it all depends on your audience. Telling them what they want to hear is a great way to get votes but a lousy way to lead a country.

Biden: ‘It’s Nice To Be Back In Coal Country’

CASTLEWOOD, Va. – In his first visit to Southwest Virginia, Democratic vice presidential nominee Joe Biden, speaking at the United Mine Workers’ annual fish fry here on Saturday, was quick to tout his ties to coal.

“I hope you won’t hold it against me, but I am a hard-coal miner, anthracite coal, Scranton, Pa.,” Biden said. “It’s nice to be back in coal country. … It’s a different accent [in Southwest Virginia] … but it’s the same deal. We were taught that our faith and our family was the only really important thing, and our faith and our family informed everything we did.”

All things to all people - how can you lose?

Can someone please explain...

...how Sarah Palin can draw a crowd of 60,000 people to an appearance and the press photographers present can't get a single picture of the crowd???

Click here to see what they managed to get. You would think since Joe Biden is averaging 2,000 people, that someone would want a picture of 60,000!!! Guess not.

Wonder why?

Biden: Wealthy Americans Must Pay More Taxes to Show Patriotism

Biden: Wealthy Americans Must Pay More Taxes to Show Patriotism - America’s Election HQ

WASHINGTON — Democratic vice presidential candidate Joe Biden said Thursday that paying more in taxes is the patriotic thing to do for wealthier Americans...

...“We want to take money and put it back in the pocket of middle-class people,” Biden said in an interview on ABC’s “Good Morning America.”

Noting that wealthier Americans would indeed pay more, Biden said: “It’s time to be patriotic … time to jump in, time to be part of the deal, time to help get America out of the rut.”

Here we go...

I have a question. If it so "patriotic" for wealthy Americans to pay higher taxes, why isn't Biden calling on everyone to be patriotic?

Biden says what he means without really meaning to. "We want to take money and put it back in the pocket of middle-class people.” Take from the rich and give to the poor. Robin Hood all over again, except, let's be more accurate. It's STEAL from the rich...

Another 'progessive' once said "from each according to his ability, to each according to his needs". That was Karl Marx, author of The Communist Manifesto and father of Communism.

This shows EXACTLY what's wrong with the media and Obama...

This is collection of one sound bite, one video and one news story. First listen to Carly Fiorina, former CEO of Hewlett Packard, answer a question from a radio host regarding Sarah Palin's qualifications to be a CEO. Listen to all 1:43 of it.

Then watch the video of Fiorina being interviewed about that statement.

And finally, check out the headline and story that CNN and the Obama campaign (I know, I know, redundant...) come out with.

Absolutely disgusting that they would take her words out of context and deliberately twist them for their purposes.

Isn't it also interesting that the Obama campaign believes that Carly Fiorina is intelligent enough to determine that Sarah Palin and John McCain wouldn't be qualified to be a CEO of a large corporation but they conveniently ignore that she said Obama's and Biden's name in the same sentence?

Sound file from radio show

Video of Interview

McCain adviser Fiorina: Palin not ready to run a corporation

(CNN) -- Carly Fiorina, the former Hewlett-Packard CEO turned top John McCain aide, said she doesn't think Sarah Palin is qualified to run a major corporation.

..."If John McCain's top economic adviser doesn't think he can run a corporation, how on Earth can he run the largest economy in the world in the midst of a financial crisis?" said Obama spokesman Tommy Vietor. "Apparently, even the people who run his campaign agree that the economy is an issue John McCain doesn't understand as well as he should."

Hillary to replace Biden??

Hearing more and more rumors about Obama replacing Biden with Hillary for VP. This could just be wishful thinking on the part of some after Biden's comments this week.

If it turns out to be true, would that be pandering? Nah!

Stay tuned.

Biden Killed Asbestos Bill For Top Donors

Biden Killed Asbestos Bill For Top Donors Sweetness & Light

What a shock.

Mr. Biden killed legislation that would have hurt his top donors, relatives and friends — who all just happen to be involved in highly lucrative asbestos class action lawsuits...

...The senator has longstanding relationships with law firms that donated to his congressional races and his two bids for the White House. Top contributors for his recent run were the Law Office of Peter Angelos in Baltimore, Maryland, which donated $156,250; SimmonsCooper in East Alton, Illinois contributed $146,600; Pachulski Stang Ziehl & Jones in Wilmington gave $145,625; and Young Conaway Stargatt & Taylor in Wilmington gave $127,979.

Many of those firms have handled asbestos and bankruptcy cases, issues Biden has weighed in on from his seat on the judicial committee. Biden was a critic of the failed Fairness in Asbestos Injury Resolution (FAIR) Act of 2005, which would have trimmed returns on future litigation and hurt firms like SimmonsCooper, a billion dollar asbestos practice which used son Beau’s former law firm, Bifferato, Gentilotti, Biden & Balick (now Bifferato Gentilotti), as local counsel to file asbestos suits in Delaware. Angelos’ firm also represents asbestos clients, and Stargatt & Taylor has handled mass tort asbestos cases, representing court-appointed advocates for unknown future claimants–individuals representing people who have been exposed to asbestos but have not yet become sick.

Zogby International: McCain/Palin up by 4%

Zogby International

The McCain/Palin ticket wins 49.7% support, compared to 45.9% backing for the Obama/Biden ticket, this latest online survey shows. Another 4.4% either favored someone else or were unsure.

Another useless poll but keep watching. This is the time where the pollsters have to start slowly working their way toward reality lest they look bad against the actual results in election day.

Election Prediction - Going out on a limb...

OK, folks. It's time to make a prediction for the 2008 Presidential Election. The conventions are over. The bounces are still bouncing. And the pundits have begun all their 'punditry'.

John McCain and Sarah Palin will win this election with a nationwide vote of 52% to 47% over Obama with 1% going to Nader, Barr, et al.

The electoral map will look something like this:

I strongly believe that McCain/Palin already have 265 electoral votes on their side (the dark red). All they need to do is win any one of the remaining light red states (unless it's New Hampshire, then they would need one more to avoid a tie).

By the way, you can make your own map at Real Clear Politics

Now you can begin to see why I am so optimistic about the outcome of this election.

Of course, my opinion and $4.00 (at Starbuck's) will get you a cup of coffee.

(Does anyone really like Starbucks coffee? I thought people just drank it to look cool - sort of like smoking in high school...)

Joe Biden talks about the "surge" on Meet the Press

Please watch the whole thing. This is the guy that Obama's people think gives him the foreign policy experience necessary to form an effective adminstration.
If this guy's short-sighted view of how to conduct a war passes for foreign policy experience - I'll pass on his foreign policy experience.

Biden on Meet the Press 2008 - Was Saddam Hussein a threat?

Watch this video one time - and then go back and listen to it again, imagining that George W. Bush is speaking.
Now try to imagine the different reaction from the Democrats if this was Bush instead of Biden.

Joe Biden On Barack Obama

I'm sure you won't have to look very hard to find this ad but I couldn't resist posting it.
I'll have plenty to say about this ticket a little later but, for now, have fun.
